A delegation of clan leaders from the Buganda Kingdom flew to Namibia on Monday to visit Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, who is receiving medical treatment in the southern African country. The team, led by Kyaddondo Kasirye Mbugeeramula (Nvuma), is scheduled to spend five days in Namibia.

Other clan leaders on the trip include Mawesano Deus Kyeyune (Ngaali), Sheba Kakande (Ngeye), Elias Lwasi Buuzaabo (Ndiga), Godfrey Natiigo (Lugave premier), and Walusimbi Mbirozankya (Ngeye).

Kabaka Mutebi’s Health Update
Speaking to this reporter in a telephone interview, the head of clan leaders, Augustine Kizito Mutumba, said the trip was organized following a committee resolution passed on May 30, 2024. The resolution allowed clan leaders who could travel to seek permission and fund their trip to check on the Kabaka.

“Our culture dictates that we check on our leader since he has been unwell for some time,” said Mr. Mutumba.

Prior to boarding the plane at Entebbe International Airport, Mr. Walusimbi mentioned that the trip aims to dispel rumors about the Kabaka’s health. Despite Buganda Information Minister Israel Kitooke Kazibwe stating that the kingdom was unaware of the trip, the clan leaders proceeded with their plans.

Presidential Intervention
The clan leaders, led by State Minister for ICT Joyce Nabbosa Ssebuggwawo, held a two-hour discussion with President Museveni on June 8, seeking his intervention to gain clearance for the visit. Ms. Ssebuggwawo noted that the President promised to follow up on the Kabaka’s health status.

In a short video shared by Buganda Kingdom Katikkiro (premier) Charles Peter Mayiga, Kabaka Mutebi, who has been unwell since April, stated that medical experts had advised him to take a therapeutic rest.

The clan leaders’ visit comes at a crucial time as the Kabaka made his first public appearance since leaving the country for treatment. The Buganda Kingdom awaits further updates on his health and well-being.
