Thursday, June 29, 2023

Three Uganda National Bureau of Standards-UNBS staff have been accused of asking for a bribe.

The prosecution says that material analysts John Sanyu, Elisa Bawabya, and material engineers David Okeny violated sections 2(a) and 26(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2009 as amended by engaging in corruption.

The three are accused of asking Panchal Anand, a marketing manager for HUA HIA International Company, for two million Shillings in exchange for a Quick Approval Testing Report for submitted products, according to the charge sheet.

On June 20, they are said to have violated the law at Bweyogere, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.

The three appeared before Acting Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Abert Asiimwe on Tuesday and entered not guilty pleas to the accusations. They were held in custody at Luzira Prison until June 30, 2023, on Friday.

The case’s investigations, according to the prosecution team headed by Timothy Kawooya, are practically completed.
