During collaborative operations conducted by the police, Uganda Peoples Defense Forces-UPDF, and Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence in Kakumiro district, four infamous car thieves were apprehended.

The arrested individuals are Samuel Mukisa, also known as Big Spender, Asuman Sempiira, Denis Barigye, alias Kawalata, and John Justus Turinawe. The apprehension took place in Igayaza Town Council in Kakumiro, as part of a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation carried out over the weekend.

The suspects were in possession of a stolen Toyota Premio with the registration number UAW 045P and a motorcycle with the registration number UEF 711J.

Julius Hakiza, the spokesperson for Albertine Region Police, told Examiner that after stealing vehicles, the culprits collaborate with counterparts in Kampala, Wakiso, and Mukono to sell the stolen vehicles. Hakiza further mentioned that the police are actively pursuing the accomplices who are currently evading arrest.

Hakiza stated that these individuals have been a menace in Kakumiro, Mubende, Hoima, Kibaale, Kagadi, Kyenjojo, and Kikuube, resorting to armed robbery to steal cars and motorcycles. However, the security forces have not yet recovered the firearm used by the criminals to intimidate the residents.

Upon completion of investigations, the detained suspects, currently held at Kakumiro Central Police Station, will face legal charges in court. Hakiza appealed to the public to provide crucial information that could aid in the arrest of more suspects who are still at large.
