KAMPALA, (Examiner) – France’s government has introduced the Equip French Fund (EFF), a €288,450 (Shs1 billion) initiative aimed at bolstering French instruction in secondary schools across Uganda.

Unveiled at the Alliance Française De Kampala (AFK), the project was initially proposed by the Embassy of France in Uganda.

In collaboration with the French Embassy, AFK, and the Association of Professors of French in Uganda, the two-year endeavor seeks to refine teaching methodologies and promote innovative approaches within French education.

During the inauguration, Xavier Sticker, the Ambassador of France to Uganda, underscored the project’s significance, emphasizing its role in not only supporting French education but also fostering stronger bonds between the two nations.

“This initiative will not only enhance the learning experience for students and educators but also foster camaraderie between our countries and more,” Ambassador Sticker remarked.

He commended the French government for greenlighting the program and affirmed their dedication to bolstering Uganda’s educational landscape.

Examiner understands Eric Touzé, Director of AFK, delineated the project’s objectives, which include enhancing French teaching practices and providing teacher training in Uganda.

Touzé outlined AFK’s focus areas, which encompass pedagogical training for secondary school teachers and French language instructors, with an emphasis on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and DELF exams.

Furthermore, Touzé detailed plans for outreach programs in various regions of Uganda, aimed at addressing gender issues and promoting inclusivity in French education.

“We will dispatch teams to different provinces to oversee and sustain our efforts. Additionally, we will create podcasts and videos to track the progress of the program across Uganda over the next two years,” Touzé explained.

He also highlighted the Association of Professors of French in Uganda’s role in teacher development and organizing educational camps for students in five regions.

The project launch attracted French educators from across Uganda and various dignitaries, underscoring its importance in the education sector.
