Gov’t Releases Funeral Program for Dr. Martin Aliker

The schedule for the farewell ceremony of the late Dr. Martin Aliker, who passed away on Monday, has been disclosed, with the government allocating Shs100m for the funeral arrangements.

As per the itinerary issued by the government spokesperson’s office, Dr. Aliker’s final resting place will be Aworanga in Gulu City, scheduled for Sunday.

President Museveni has accorded Dr. Aliker an official funeral, which entails parliamentary recognition through a motion by the prime minister.

The ceremony will feature the national anthem and the national flag adorning the deceased’s coffin. A condolence book will be available at designated locations, including Uganda’s diplomatic missions abroad.

A representative from the government will be in attendance at the funeral.

In lieu of wreaths and floral tributes, mourners are encouraged to contribute to the Rocco Paco-Dero Kwan Education Initiative, via Bank of Africa–Gulu Branch Account No. 07659660002 or mobile money 0772725196, supporting education for underprivileged children in Acholi.

A funeral service will take place tomorrow, from 10 am to midday, at Dr. Aliker’s residence in Summit View, Kololo, Kampala.

The following day, the body will be conveyed to All Saints Cathedral Nakasero for a funeral service at 9 am.

Afterward, the body will be transported to Gulu City.

Another funeral service will be held at St. Philips Cathedral Mican in Gulu City on Saturday.

The same day will also see the body taken to Aworanga, where a vigil will be held.

Sunday marks the day of Dr. Aliker’s burial.

Dr. Aliker, born in 1928 in Gulu District, was widely respected as a businessman, politician, and dental surgeon.

He notably chaired Monitor Publications Limited and facilitated its acquisition by the Nation Media Group. Additionally, he served as chairman on numerous prominent boards in Uganda and the region.

From 1996 to 1999, he held the position of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf.
