Henry Kyemba, ex-Idi Amin minister, passes away

Dr. Henry Kyemba, renowned for his book “State of Blood: The Inside Story of Idi Amin,” reportedly passed away this morning, October 19, 2023. However, specific details regarding the cause and location of his death remain undisclosed.

“State of Blood: The Inside Story of Idi Amin” offers an intimate account of his tenure as Uganda’s Minister of Health during the harrowing regime of President Idi Amin, which endured from 1971 to 1979. This book illuminates the heinous atrocities and human rights violations perpetrated by Amin’s administration, serving as a significant historical record that unveils a dark chapter in Uganda’s history.

Born in 1939, Kyemba went into exile in 1977, two years prior to Amin’s ousting, only returning to Uganda in 1986 after the National Resistance Army, led by President Yoweri Museveni, assumed power following Dr. Apollo Milton Obote’s presidency.
