LONDON, UK (Examiner) – Jubilant celebrations swept through the Grand Sapphire Hotel as the UK-Uganda Diaspora community gathered to honor their champions. The inaugural UK-Uganda Diaspora Champions Awards celebrated individuals who have made significant contributions in serving, inspiring, mentoring, educating, engaging, and positively impacting the community.

The event, a landmark occasion, was graced by Deputy High Commissioner of Uganda to the UK, H.E. Ambassador John Mugerwa, and Diaspora focal desk officer, Ms. Miriam Otengo. They joined community members in recognizing the outstanding achievements of these extraordinary individuals, who have advanced development both in the UK and Uganda.

Mulimira, cofounder of the Uganda Diaspora Health Foundation, lauded the event, saying, “Yesterday, our Deputy High Commissioner, Ambassador John Mugerwa, and Ms. Miriam Otengo celebrated many community champions and leaders with Ugandans in the UK diaspora. Congratulations to all the winners.”

Among the notable honorees was Mumbejja Jacqueline M. Dumba, whose organization has created a supportive community for young women away from home. Providing a sense of belonging and sisterhood, her efforts have helped many stay connected to their roots and find like-minded individuals. A member highlighted her impact, saying, “With 13 years of Miss Uganda UK under her belt, she continues to make a difference. I have witnessed how she has empowered young women to build confidence and achieve dreams beyond the MUUK crown.”

The community expressed deep gratitude to the chief organizer, Mr. Jasper Ntege, and the partners who supported and enabled the success of this inaugural event. Their dedication made the celebration a memorable and inspiring milestone for the UK-Uganda Diaspora.
