The leaders of LCI conveyed their worries during a comprehensive security meeting held at Kabale Municipal Council hall. Mujjasi Athanasius, Chairperson of Igabiro cell LC1, commended the recent efforts of the police in apprehending some criminals. However, he stressed that crime continues to plague the district. Athanasius recounted a recent incident in Kyanamira Sub County where a hawker fell victim to a fatal ambush during daylight hours earlier this month.

Betty Kyomuhendo, Chairperson of Hospital Cell, and Naris Tumwesigye, Chairperson of Rwamukundi Cell, emphasized the issue of youth unemployment, attributing much of the criminal activity to desperation for survival. They cited a recent attack on a woman near Kabale District headquarters as she was en route to Kabale Hospital with her child for medical treatment.

Joseph Bakaleke, Kabale District Police Commander, reported that in the past month alone, approximately 80 individuals have been apprehended in targeted police operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks within Kabale Municipality.

SSP Ibrahim Saiga, Kigezi Region Police Commander, urged community leaders not to solely attribute the surge in crime to law enforcement. Instead, he advocated for the reactivation of security village committees to promote safer and more secure communities.
