Nebbi District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | King Phillip Rauni Olarker III of the Alur Kingdom has called on the government to expedite the tarmacking of the 119km Nebbi-Goli-Paidha-Zombo-Zeu-Warr-Vurra road. His plea came during his 13th coronation anniversary celebration at Alengo playground in Parombo town council, Nebbi district.

During the 2010/2011 and 2015/2016 general election campaigns, President Yoweri Museveni had promised to tarmac the road. Addressing State Minister for Northern Uganda Grace Freedom Kwiyucwiny, who represented the President, King Olarker III emphasized that the road’s tarmacking would foster development and economic prosperity for the people and the districts.

The Nebbi-Goli-Paidha-Warr-Vurra road serves as a vital trade route between West Nile Sub and the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). King Olarker III pointed out that the road has posed safety risks for an extended period, particularly during the rainy season.

He stressed the importance of fulfilling pledges and promises, highlighting the significance of tarmacking major roads that play a crucial role in the livelihoods of the people in greater Nebbi.

In recent weeks, frustrated youth in Zombo district threatened to stage a massive demonstration due to the delayed tarmacking of the road. They expressed their grievances during a consultative meeting at the district headquarters, accusing the government of neglecting the rehabilitation and tarmacking of this essential road and others in the region that are in a dire state.

Richard Todwong, the NRM Secretary General, urged the Alur community to exercise patience as the government mobilizes resources for road development. He explained that feasibility studies and architectural designs for the 119km Nebbi-Goli-Paidha-Zombo-Zeu-Warr-Vurra road have been completed, and the government is in the process of mobilizing funds for the project.
