Summary:

  • Hamisi Lukyamuzi, Law Development Center’s secretary, informed parliament of the need for more lecturers, requiring 35 billion shillings. The center utilizes government-employed professionals for teaching.

Hamisi Lukyamuzi, the secretary of the Law Development Center, briefed members of parliament from the Legal and Affairs Committee regarding the institution’s urgent need for additional lecturers. He disclosed that acquiring part-time lecturers would necessitate a budget of 35 billion shillings, attributing this requirement to the surge in student numbers.

In contrast to typical academic institutions, the Law Development Center leverages professionals already serving within the government’s judicial sector to conduct lectures for their students.

This 35 billion shillings allocation supplements the existing 70.5 billion shillings earmarked for the construction of a multipurpose building. This new facility aims to accommodate an increased student enrollment capacity of 2000-3000 students.

During the committee session, Annet Karungi, the Head of the Bar Course at the Law Development Centre (LDC), faced inquiries regarding the institution’s high failure rates. She, however, attributed these rates to the inadequacies in the foundational training and skills imparted to students at various universities. Karungi emphasized that the nine-month program at LDC is insufficient to bridge these knowledge and skills gaps effectively.
