The residents living near Rusese Government Prison in Mpondwe Lhubiriha town council have demanded that the prison administration address the health hazards posed by an uncovered septic tank in their community.

Mr. Moshen Kiyengo, a resident in the area, expressed his concerns to our reporter, stating that numerous complaints had been lodged with the local authorities and the prison administration, but no action had been taken.

In response to the situation, Mr. Moses Tsutsu, the Chairperson of LC Three for Isango subcounty in Kasese district, urged the prison management at Rusese Prison to prioritize the well-being of the neighboring community. He emphasized the need for proper planning and communication with the community whenever the septic tank needs to be emptied, as well as ensuring that it remains covered at all times.

Mr. Tsutsu also acknowledged the positive contribution of Rusese Prison in reducing transportation costs for relatives visiting the inmates. He expressed hope that the prison management would fulfill their promise to cover the open section of their VIP toilet promptly.
