The Madhvani Foundation has unveiled scholarships for the 2024/25 program, totaling shs750 million, aimed at supporting Ugandan students pursuing higher education at universities.

In an announcement made on Wednesday, Gerald Ssendawula, the board chairperson of the Madhvani Foundation and former Finance Minister, revealed that the scholarships will encompass various fields such as agriculture, biology, chemistry, commerce, engineering, food science and technology, information technology, hotel management, pharmacy, nursing, architecture, veterinary medicine, actuarial science, environmental studies, and human medicine.

“This scholarship program goes beyond financial aid; it’s an investment in the future leaders, innovators, and changemakers of our society. Its founders recognized the transformative power of education in shaping lives, reflecting their steadfast dedication to equality and inclusivity in education,” stated Ssendawula.

He elaborated that since its establishment in 2003, the Madhvani Foundation scholarship program has benefitted over 2500 Ugandan students, with significant financial resources dedicated to this cause.

“I commend the Madhvani group for their generosity and patriotism. Despite opportunities to reinvest these funds into their businesses, they have chosen to offer scholarships to Ugandan students, thereby contributing to Uganda’s development by nurturing talented individuals who will emerge as future leaders and professionals in diverse fields,” Ssendawula added.

Regarding eligibility, Ssendawula highlighted that in the previous year, 177 Ugandan students received the Madhvani Foundation scholarships, with a similar number expected to benefit this year. Undergraduate applicants must have completed their first year at university, while those applying for master’s programs should have been admitted or registered by their respective universities. The scholarships are available for students enrolled in chartered universities in Uganda.

Gabriel Opio, former state minister for investment and privatization, will serve as the chairperson of this year’s selection committee for the scholarships.
