Man Buried Alive by Kabale Sand Quarry

KABALE, (Examiner) – 37-year-old Dickson Niwamanya, a resident of Nyakakika cell, Muyebe parish, Buhara Sub County, Kabale District, was buried alive by a sand quarry.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, reported that Niwamanya had been engaged in sand mining at Bukaranga cell along the Kabale-Katuna road for a prolonged period. On Thursday at around 10:00 AM, he left home to mine sand with an unidentified companion. Tragically, the soil collapsed, killing Niwamanya instantly.

The incident was brought to the attention of the officer-in-charge at Kamuganguzi Police Station, who then informed the O/C CID Kabale. An official report was filed, and a team of homicide detectives was dispatched at around 7:20 PM to investigate the scene. They found Niwamanya’s body buried deep under the sand.

Initially, the homicide team planned to address the situation the following day. However, local residents retrieved the body and placed it in an open area before the team could proceed.

On Friday morning, the crime scene was revisited with a police surgeon. After examining the body, it was handed over to Niwamanya’s relatives for a proper burial.
