President Yoweri Museveni has unveiled a new initiative aimed at combating corruption within the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). Named the State House Revenue Intelligence and Strategic Operations Unit, this newly established body will operate under the direct oversight of State House.

In a statement released by the Presidential Press Unit, the unit’s primary mandate is to scrutinize URA operations rigorously and clamp down on corrupt practices within the tax administration system. According to the statement, President Museveni emphasized that the unit’s creation is pivotal in addressing revenue leakages and enhancing tax collection efficiency.

David Kalemera has been appointed as the Senior Presidential Advisor and Head of the newly formed unit, signaling a strong commitment from the President to enforce accountability and transparency in revenue management.

This move adds to the growing arsenal of anti-corruption measures initiated by State House, which includes units such as the Anti-Corruption Unit led by Brig. Henry Isoke, the State House Investor Protection Unit under Col. Edith Nakalema, and the State House Health Monitoring Unit headed by Dr. Warren Namanya.

President Museveni’s administration has continuously bolstered efforts against corruption across various government agencies, alongside established bodies like the Inspectorate of Government, the Auditor General, the Director of Public Prosecution, the Police Criminal Investigation Department, and the Anticorruption Court.

The creation of the State House Revenue Intelligence and Strategic Operations Unit underscores Uganda’s commitment to combatting corruption and strengthening governance in public institutions.
