NAKASONGOLA, (Examiner) – A shocking incident in Nakasongola District has left the community reeling after the brutal murder of 76-year-old Elena Namulondo in Kyakabombo village on Friday, June 28. The suspect, a 36-year-old man, is now in police custody following a harrowing escape from a mob seeking justice.

According to local reports, the tragedy unfolded when Namulondo, who lived with her two grandchildren, was viciously attacked shortly after the children had left home for various errands. The assault left her fatally injured, and despite efforts to rush her to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries soon after arrival.

The swift action of a police sniffer dog led investigators to the suspect’s residence, where a blood-stained hand hoe believed to be the murder weapon was recovered. The suspect narrowly escaped vigilante justice as enraged villagers sought retribution upon discovering the gruesome scene.

Johnson Wandera, the LC1 Chairperson of Kyakabombo village, expressed shock over the incident, highlighting growing concerns about property disputes and familial greed in the area. “It’s tragic that such violence could erupt within our community,” he lamented in an interview with local media.

Sam Twineamazima, the Savana Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the details, noting that the investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the heinous crime and to identify any possible accomplices.

The tragic event has sparked renewed calls for youth education on responsible property management and the dangers of resorting to violence over inheritance disputes. Local leaders, including Sunday Rogers Bwanga, Nakasongola District Council Speaker, emphasized the need for community dialogue to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
