KAMPALA, (Examiner) – The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced the availability of 9627 infantry vacancies, with eligibility criteria specifying individuals aged 18-22 to fill these positions. Brigadier General Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF Spokesperson, disclosed that the Army will commence a general recruitment exercise from July 1st, 2024, until July 14th, 2024. Here are the comprehensive details:

The recruitment process will follow these steps:

  1. Prospective candidates seeking to join the regular force must obtain recommendations from various local authorities including LCI, LCII, LCIII, GISO, and DISO. Subsequently, they will submit their application forms to the office of the RDC for registration. The forms will then be collected by UPDF collection teams and submitted to the office of Joint Staff Human Resource Management for shortlisting.
  2. The list of successful applicants will be publicly displayed on District/City notice boards, notifying them to attend final interviews at designated recruitment centers.
  3. Recruitment will be conducted based on projected population figures of each District/City of Uganda, determining recruitment quotas.
  4. Quotas for potential recruits will be calculated according to the population proportion of each City/District of Uganda based on the updated population figures by UBOS as of June 25, 2023.
  5. The Regular Force Recruitment 2023/24 will cover all 135 districts and 11 cities across the country, divided into 10 zones: Buganda, Busoga, Bukedi/Teso, Midwestern, Kampala Extra, Rwenzori Region, Northern, Karamoja/Sebei, West Nile, and Western.
  6. Aspiring recruits will be recommended by DISOs, GISOs, and LCs.
  7. The recruitment exercise will span 56 days, including submission, verification of applications, and final recruitment.

ACCREDITATION AND CERTIFICATION:
All participants in the recruitment exercise will be required to possess a security pass.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Eligible candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Citizenship: Must be a citizen of Uganda with an original National Identity Card.
  • Medical: Must be physically fit and prepared to undergo medical and body fitness tests.
  • Age: Must be between 18 – 22 years.
  • Education Standard: Must have completed S.4 (UCE) between 2020 – 2023 and passed English and Mathematics.
  • Application Letters signed by LCI, LCII & LCIII Chairpersons, GISO or DISO, and RDC are mandatory.
  • Applicants must be local residents, disciplined, and have no criminal record.
