Two pupils killed in bomb blast in Kaabong

An explosion killed two children and injured two in Nakituriket village in Kakamar Sub County, Kaabong district.

The deceased were identified as Ayollo Lokutai aged 13 and Lokoel Komol 12 years, while Meri Lomonyang aged 9, and Meri Lokiditoi were left with minor injuries. The four were all pupils of Kakamar Primary School.

It is reported that on Saturday afternoon, the four boys left home to go and cut trees to fence the goat’s kraal before they landed on the abandoned bomb.

One Ayollo picked up the bomb and started playing with it while hitting the base of the tree under close watch Komol and the two others were at a distance cutting the tree when the device exploded and killed two on the spot.

Meri Jino, the LC5 chairperson of the Kaabong district told our reporter that the unfortunate incident took them by surprise. He added that the security forces were notified and a team of Police detectives visited the scene for further management.

Jino said that the bodies of the deceased were taken to Kaabong Hospital for postmortem, while the two injured were put on treatment. He noted that the cases of explosive devices are most likely to increase due to the numerous security operations against cattle rustlers in the region.

Jino urged the local community to be vigilant and desist from picking metallic objects that are suspected to be explosive. He added that people should report to the authorities about anything suspicious they come across.
