The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has called upon law enforcement and local authorities to investigate fresh claims of fraudulent activities during the recruitment of census enumerators and supervisors.

Following reports of irregularities, UBOS aims to apprehend and dismiss all individuals implicated in these fraudulent practices.

Recently, UBOS implemented strict measures after allegations surfaced of qualified candidates being sidelined due to refusal to pay bribes to recruitment officials.

Now, UBOS has received further reports indicating that some shortlisted candidates were unlawfully removed from consideration while unqualified individuals were recruited in their place across various regions.

UBOS Executive Director, Chris Mukiza, expressed deep concern over these malpractices and has mobilized security forces to probe the matter. Mukiza emphasized the importance of removing wrongfully listed candidates and replacing them with those who meet the qualifications.

Earlier complaints highlighted instances of qualified applicants being overlooked, fraudulent payment requests, and dissemination of fake online recruitment adverts.

To address concerns, UBOS extended the display of shortlisted candidates for public scrutiny and urged aggrieved applicants to file formal complaints with evidence.

The recruitment process, which aimed to fill 114,460 enumerator and 18,483 supervisor positions, was conducted online nationwide.

UBOS assures the public that steps are being taken to rectify the situation and uphold the integrity of the census recruitment process.
