UBOS urges CAOs and clerks to aid Census 2024


  • UBOS Director Dr. Mukiza urges CAOs and Town Clerks to support Uganda’s 2024 Census, emphasizing its importance for national planning. He highlights progress in household mapping and recruitment plans for field personnel, stressing the need for community engagement. Preliminary results are expected by June 2024, with final results by December 2024.

In a recent meeting at Hotel African in Kampala, the Executive Director of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), Dr. Chris N. Mukiza, also serving as the Census Commissioner, rallied Chief Administrative Officers and Town Clerks to support the forthcoming National Population and Housing Census 2024.


Dr. Mukiza highlighted UBOS’s role in coordinating statistical activities for national development and emphasized the significance of accurate data for effective planning and policy formulation. He underscored the digital nature of the upcoming census, scheduled to begin on May 10, 2024, and urged full participation.

Updating attendees on the ongoing Household Listing and Mapping exercise, Dr. Mukiza noted significant progress across the country, with completion rates of 94% for villages. He acknowledged the support received and outlined plans to extend the exercise to the Greater Kampala area.

The recruitment of over 120,000 field personnel for the enumeration exercise will involve collaboration with district officials. Dr. Mukiza stressed the importance of adhering to recruitment guidelines to ensure the selection of qualified individuals.

He called upon CAOs and Town Clerks to champion the census, facilitate cooperation, and encourage community involvement. Dr. Mukiza assured timely dissemination of preliminary results by June 2024, followed by the final results in December 2024.
