The Uganda Police Force has officially addressed widespread reports claiming that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abbas Byakagaba’s official motor vehicle is allegedly missing.
In a statement issued on Friday, Police Spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma refuted a headline from the New Vision newspaper dated August 9, 2024, which suggested that the IGP’s vehicle had been stolen. Kituuma emphasized that the report by NewVision, a government-owned publication, was both inaccurate and exaggerated, clarifying that the IGP’s official vehicle is secure and uncompromised.
“The Police Force firmly asserts that this information is both inaccurate and exaggerated. The IGP’s official vehicle remains secure and has not been compromised,” ACP Kituuma stated. He further explained that the vehicle involved in the reported theft was a police single cabin pickup, registered as UP 00135, which serves as a service van. Following the incident, the stolen vehicle was recovered, and a suspect has been arrested.
The investigation into the theft is ongoing, with additional details expected to be released in due course. “The Uganda Police Force will continue to keep the public informed of any developments related to this case,” Kituuma concluded.
