Summary:

  • TikToker Ibrahim Musana accuses prison authorities of conducting medical tests without consent. Authorities claim it’s standard procedure. Prosecution seeks time to complete investigation into Musana’s alleged online activities targeting political figures. Court adjourns until April 11.

Ibrahim Musana, also known as Pressure 24/7, a TikTok personality currently detained at Luzira prison in Uganda, has alleged that authorities subjected him to medical procedures without his consent.

Musana, who is facing charges related to alleged derogatory remarks towards Buganda King Ronald Mutebi II and President Museveni, raised the issue through his legal representatives at the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s court. According to his lawyers, Musana claims he underwent blood sample extraction and unspecified medical treatment while in prison without prior approval.

His defense lawyer, Gideon Masamba, emphasized that such medical actions should be carried out in the presence of legal representation. The court learned that these tests were conducted approximately three weeks after Musana’s remand.

Responding to inquiries, prison authorities stated that it is standard procedure for new inmates to undergo medical examinations to prevent the spread of diseases like tuberculosis. Frank Baine, the prison spokesperson, confirmed that this practice is in line with established protocols and emphasized its importance in safeguarding the health of both incoming prisoners and existing inmates.

Regarding the timing of Musana’s medical evaluation, Baine explained that it depends on the availability of medical staff. Meanwhile, the prosecution informed the court that investigations are nearing completion, requesting a 14-day extension to finalize their inquiries.

The trial chief magistrate, Ronald Kayiizi, adjourned the proceedings until April 11 to allow the prosecution to conclude its investigation. Prosecutors allege that Musana used his TikTok account to disseminate content likely to incite hostility against several leaders, including Kabaka Mutebi, President Museveni, Speaker Anita Among, and Minister Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo, between August 2023 and February 2024 in Kampala District.
