Umeme declares its exit from Uganda in 2025.

After learning from the government that their 20-year concession would not be renewed when it expired, the power distribution company Umeme announced on Thursday that it will leave Uganda in 2025.
The concession is protected by a number of legally binding Concession Agreements. The current concession will continue to exist until it inevitably expires in March 2025, as specified in the concession agreements; there will then be no renewal, the company has formally received written notification from the government of the Republic of Uganda informing it of this.

Umeme further noted that it remains committed to performing its obligations as per the existing Concession Agreements and will continue to operate and maintain the electricity distribution system in line with prudent utility practice to ensure continued service delivery through to the end of the concession.
