The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) assured the nation’s safety and security on Thursday, March 21, 2024.

According to Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, the Defence spokesperson, security agencies were actively ensuring the country’s safety through various measures.

Kulayigye referenced the alert issued on March 18, 2024, regarding identified Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists. He stated that Uganda remained peaceful and stable due to the strategic efforts of the UPDF and sister security agencies, which had thwarted most of the ADF’s plans.

Emphasizing the protection of strategic assets such as tourist sites and populated areas, Kulayigye affirmed that all necessary security measures had been implemented to ensure safe travel.

He reassured Ugandans and the international community that normal business operations could continue safely, urging vigilance to uphold the hard-earned peace and socio-economic progress of the nation.

Furthermore, Security Minister Gen. Jim Muhwezi urged calm amidst reports of ADF remnants infiltrating the country. He assured the public of preparedness to confront any threat, highlighting the dynamic nature of the conflict with ADF insurgents who hide within the population and forests.

The UPDF’s deputy spokesperson, Col. Deo Akiiki, had earlier alerted the nation about the ADF’s activities, attributing them to notorious commanders like Abu Waqqas and his associates. These individuals were believed to be fleeing joint operations in eastern DRC by UPDF and FARDC forces.

Past incursions by ADF elements, including attacks on schools and tourists, were acknowledged, with efforts underway to bring the perpetrators to justice. Notably, ADF commander Rashid Abdul Kyoto was slated to stand trial for his involvement in attacks on tourists.

Overall, the UPDF reiterated its commitment to maintaining security and neutralizing threats to Uganda’s stability and prosperity.
