In Busamo village, Kamuli District, a man armed with a machete was lynched by residents after allegedly hacking two women, resulting in the death of one on the spot.

According to reports from Mr. Jude Kalebi, a resident of Busamo village, Butansi sub-county, Kamuli District, the incident began with the indiscriminate killing of three goats before attacking two women, identified as Ms. Merabu Mugaba and Ms. Janet Naiguru, who were returning from the garden. Sadly, Ms. Mugaba lost her life instantly, while Ms. Naiguru sustained injuries, as confirmed by Mr. Richard Waiswa, another resident.

The violence escalated when Kalebi encountered Mr. Sam Mugabi on the road, fatally injuring him as well. During the altercation, Kalebi’s brother, known only as Musa, attempted to disarm him and was wounded in the process, causing panic among the locals.

Fearing for their lives, the residents armed themselves with sticks and machetes and pursued Kalebi into a sugarcane plantation, where they caught up with him and beat him to death, according to eyewitness Mr. Julius Muwanguzi.

Muwanguzi suggested that Kalebi’s actions might have been influenced by marijuana, an illicit substance he was known to use.

Michael Kasadha, spokesperson for Busoga North Police, highlighted the prevalence of marijuana cultivation in Butansi sub-county, attributing incidents like these to the community’s reluctance to cease cultivation despite police interventions. Kasadha emphasized the need for residents to reconsider their involvement in such activities.

In addition to the Busamo village incident, Kasadha mentioned ongoing investigations into another murder case involving three individuals in Bugeywa parish, Butansi sub-county, where a man attacked four people, resulting in two deaths. The victims were transported to Kamuli Hospital for treatment.
