Currently, the dominant topic in Uganda is the battle against corruption. This follows a February exposé by digital activists revealing lavish spending in Parliament, which has sparked a wave of corruption scandals across the government.

President Museveni previously addressed this issue during the State of the Nation Address in June, exposing a corruption network involving Parliamentary staff and officials from the Ministry of Finance. Since then, five MPs have been arrested on corruption charges. They include Yusuf Mutembuli of Bunyole East, Paul Akamba of Busiki County, Michael Mawanda of Igara East, Cissy Namujju of Lwengo District, and Ignatius Mudimi Wamakuyu of Elgon County.

The President’s address will be broadcast live on major radio and television stations and streamed on digital platforms.

Museveni has been a strong advocate for wealth creation, a message he recently reinforced during a meeting with Buganda Kingdom Clan leaders. He has urged the Bataka to promote this message as a key to Uganda’s development and has challenged Cabinet ministers and the NRM Central Executive Committee to do the same. The government’s current initiatives, including the Parish Development Model and Emyooga programs, aim to combat poverty and enhance community development.
