Summary:

  • The ruling party NRM is set to engage in nationwide grassroots mobilization in 2024, aiming to prepare for upcoming elections, renew leadership, and encourage community participation in government programs.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM), the ruling party, has finalized its plans to conduct extensive grassroots mobilization across the country in 2024. During their end-of-year message in Kampala, party Secretary General Richard Twodong emphasized the need for early preparation to compete in every position.

Twodong told Examiner that as the NRM government, elected in 2021, approaches the third year of its current 5-year term in February 2024, a major activity will involve gearing up the party for the upcoming elections. Throughout 2024, the NRM aims to prepare for internal elections, renew leadership within party structures, and identify candidates for various positions.

“The goal is to conduct credible elections for both party structures and national/international candidates, addressing key issues identified in our previous internal activities,” noted Twodong. He revealed that the party conducted constituency mobilization in the current year to prepare for the general elections and used the findings to develop strategies for government intervention to support citizens in different sectors.

Additionally, NRM has established party offices in various districts, including Buhweju, Sironko, Kakumiro, Gulu, Ngora, Mityana, and Luweero. Twodong outlined plans for nationwide mass mobilization in the coming year to encourage the population to engage in social-economic transformation through government-implemented developmental programs.

“We believe that effective transformation of the people cannot solely be managed by the government. The responsibility to transform equally lies in the hands of the community,” emphasized Twodong. He urged the masses to continue participating in government programs such as the Youth Fund, Emyooga, and the Parish Development model.
