Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has revealed his upcoming nationwide tour aimed at inaugurating party offices and rallying support. Speaking to Kampala media today, Hon. Kyagulanyi emphasized that, unlike Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the president’s son, who cannot campaign due to military service, politicians are legally permitted to engage with the public.
Acknowledging previous challenges due to security interference during their nationwide mobilization attempts, Hon. Kyagulanyi expressed determination to persist despite past setbacks.
Party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya affirmed their compliance with necessary protocols, including notifying the Inspector General of Police and the Electoral Commission. Venues for public rallies have also been secured.
Addressing allegations of insufficient support for MP Muhammad Ssegirinya receiving medical care in the Netherlands, Kyagulanyi stated that the party is collaborating with parliament to address the matter. He cautioned against exploiting Ssegirinya’s health for political gain against NUP.
Regarding internal controversies within the FDC party, Kyagulanyi commented on the allegations involving senior leaders Nandala Mafabi and Patrick Amuriat Oboi. While he considered such allegations regrettable, he noted they were not entirely surprising.
Kyagulanyi appreciated the World Bank’s moratorium on loans for Uganda following the Anti-gay Act’s enactment. He voiced concern over selective attention to human rights in Uganda, suggesting that broader human rights issues require equal promotion.
