NEMA, in collaboration with KCCA and the police, has initiated the enforcement of President Yoweri Museveni’s directive to remove individuals encroaching on wetlands, which are contributing to climate change issues. The eviction operations began in the Bulenga area near Lubigi swamp, resulting in the eviction of over 200 people. William Lubuulwa, the Deputy Spokesperson for KCCA, emphasized that wetland encroachment is a major cause of flooding in Kampala and other regions, issuing a warning to those who have not complied with the eviction orders.
However, residents affected by the wetland eviction in Bulenga have criticized NEMA and KCCA for the lack of prior notice and the absence of a resettlement plan for those displaced.
