Over 200 Senior Students Suspended at Ntare School in Mbarara City Amidst Protests

Tuesday, October 3, 2023

Mbarara City | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Approximately 205 senior students from Ntare School in Mbarara City have been suspended for allegedly protesting the school’s decision to prohibit them from bringing phones into the dormitories. The school’s headteacher, Saul Rwampororo, confirmed the suspension on Tuesday.

Rwampororo explained that this stern action was taken by the school in response to a recent disturbance the night before, during which students caused significant damage, including the destruction of newly installed CCTV cameras. He further stated that the school’s board of governors would convene shortly to assess the extent of the damages and devise a plan moving forward.

When contacted, Francis Tumwebaze, the Education Officer for Mbarara City, stated that he had not yet received a suspension letter and would only comment once he had reviewed it. On the other hand, SP Samson Kasasira, the spokesperson for the Rwizi Regional Police, reported that no arrests had been made as the school was handling the situation internally.

It is important to note that this suspension comes at a critical time, as senior six candidates have only one month left before taking their Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education examinations in November.
