PM Nabbanja Appeals to Muhumuza to Withdraw and Back Mugisha in Hoima LC5 By-Election

Hoima (UG) | The Black Examiner – The NRM leaders, led by Uganda’s Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, are urging Mr. Vincent Muhumuza, also known as Savannah, the Hoima District party Vice Chairperson, to withdraw from his LC5 chairmanship bid and instead support his new political rival, Mr. Uthuman Mubarak Mugisha.

During their party meeting in Dwoli village, Kitoba sub-county, Hoima district, on Thursday, September 7, 2023, Ms. Nabbanja, the national party Vice Chairman, Al-hajji Moses Kigongo, and the national party Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, conveyed messages promising a more favorable NRM experience if Mr. Muhumuza chose to end his campaign and support Mr. Mugisha, the current NRM flag bearer in the district.

Mr. Muhumuza had finished second in the party’s primary elections last month, losing to Mr. Mugisha.

A stern warning was issued if Mr. Muhumuza persisted in running as an independent candidate against the NRM’s choice, Mr. Mugisha, who was facing candidates from other parties.

Rt Hon Nabbanja also mentioned that the President of Uganda was planning to speak with Mr. Muhumuza on the matter to maintain harmony within the party.

Mr. Muhumuza had contested the NRM primary elections, claiming that Mr. Mugisha’s victory was marred by fraud and malpractices from the start of the campaign.

Ms. Nabbanja called upon all NRM party members to rally behind Mr. Mugisha, the winner of the NRM primaries, to ensure victory in the upcoming by-election on the 14th of this month.

She emphasized the need to avoid division within the party, highlighting it as a significant weakness that should be addressed through dialogue among members of the same political family.

“The by-election should be an opportunity for reconciliation, not deepening divisions. We are aware of one of our children, the NRM Vice Chairperson, who has chosen to run as an independent. We know him, but since he has taken this independent path, please do not vote for him. Do not,” Ms. Nabbanja firmly stated.
