Territorial Police officers from KMP South, in collaboration with Kajjansi Police Station, have apprehended an individual identified as Okello Ben, a former private security guard. The arrest comes in connection with the robbery of an SAR gun on July 28, 2023, approximately at 8:30 pm. The incident occurred at the guard point stationed at Go Cult Sports Recreation Centre, situated within Neziba Cell, Seguku Parish, Ndejje division, Makindye Ssabagabo.

Subsequent to a span of three days, on July 31, 2023, around 9:00 pm, the suspect was taken into custody at Chogam trading centre. Law enforcement officials successfully recovered the concealed firearm, which was found hidden within the traditional Kanzu attire worn by the suspect. It has been revealed that during the initial incident, the suspect deceived one of the guards, Ogwal Sam, by offering Ugandan Shillings 1500. This ruse was employed to persuade Sam to leave his post momentarily and purchase chapatis. Taking advantage of his absence, the suspect targeted and assaulted Lugwe Okeng with a stone to the head, ultimately absconding with the latter’s firearm.

It has been determined that the suspect possesses a prior criminal record involving firearm theft. This previous incident occurred on May 13, 2023, when a private security guard at Forest Resort Hotel in Lwezza “A” zone, Mutungo parish, Ndejje division, fell victim to gun theft. The stolen firearm was subsequently retrieved on May 17, 2023, in close proximity to the premises of TIME COP Security Company in Lubowa. The suspect was subjected to legal proceedings for the offense of firearm theft; however, he was subsequently released.
