A joint security forces team in the Karamoja sub-region is currently pursuing suspected Karamojong warriors responsible for the fatal assault on a police officer in Kaabong District. The incident occurred on January 12 around 9:00 pm in Kurao village, Kalapata Sub County. Morris Ochen, who was part of the Kotido ASTU zone and deployed in a joint mobile operations squad, tragically lost his life.

Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the event, revealing that the assailants, whose identities remain unknown, attacked and killed the officer while he was alone. The attackers also seized the officer’s SMG gun (No. UG POL 56-6503651-56725) along with ninety (90) rounds of ammunition.

Longole stated, “Our security team from Kaabong has visited the scene with a canine dog, and they are awaiting additional information.” Authorities have initiated operations to apprehend the assailants.

Meri Jino, the LCV Chairperson of Kaabong, expressed concern about the escalating insecurity, particularly the acts of violence perpetrated by unidentified armed warriors. Jino emphasized that local leadership is collaborating with security forces to locate and apprehend the suspects, describing them as individuals who may have evaded the disarmament exercise.

On January 6th, a separate incident occurred when an unidentified group of armed warriors raided Komuria West Trading Center. In this instance, one person lost their life, and the attackers stole money from a local bar.
