Police Officer Injured By Hippo at Kazinga Channel

Rubirizi District | The Black Examiner – Police in Rubirizi District are investigating circumstances under which a police officer was attacked and injured by a hippopotamus.

Marcial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi police spokesperson identified the victim as Expeditor Muuni attached to Kazinga police post in Rubirizi District.

He said the incident happened in Queen Elizabeth National Park one and half kilometres away from Kazinga landing site trading center.

It’s alleged that one Hamuza, a game ranger in Queen Elizabeth National Park and Naziru attached to the Fisheries protection unit at Kazinga landing site asked for support from a joint operation. Walemba and Muuni were booked out for duty in the park and after walking for two kilometres on Rwenshama-Katunguru road a hippo attacked and injured Muuni.

Tumusiime said the victim was rushed to Rugazi Health Center IV and later transferred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for further management.
