President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is poised to inaugurate a youth-focused program funded by the United Nations during the National Youth Day festivities in Kabale District.

The announcement of this exciting initiative was made today by Mondo Kyateeka, the Assistant Commissioner of Youth and Children in the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, during a preliminary visit to assess key areas for the event.

The celebrations are scheduled to take place on August 12, 2023, at Kigezi High School Lower Playground in Kabale Municipality.

This year’s commemoration centers on the theme, “Accelerating Recovery from Covid-19 and Full Implementation of the 2030 Agenda: The Role of the Youths,” emphasizing the crucial involvement of young people in overcoming pandemic challenges and advancing towards the 2030 development goals.

In preparation for the event, Kyateeka and his team held a planning meeting with local authorities from the District and Kabale Municipality. The meeting was chaired by Nelson Nshangabasheija, the District LC5 Chairperson, representing the District Resident Commissioner, Godfrey Nyakahuma.

During the meeting, Christopher Namara, the Kabale District Community Development Officer, and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, reaffirmed that entertainment groups and service providers have been engaged. Moreover, several sub-committees have been established to ensure vibrant celebrations.

Kyateeka disclosed that the ministry is actively finalizing other programs, including Sexuality Education guidelines for out-of-school youth, which are expected to be launched by President Museveni.

The event is anticipated to draw over 5000 attendees.

Additionally, it was revealed that Very Important People attending the function will be subject to mandatory COVID-19 tests, and local participants will be required to maintain a safe distance from the president throughout the event.
