Kabale District, Uganda | The Black Examiner – In a heartbreaking incident at Lake Bunyonyi Secondary School, Kitumba Sub County, a student lost his life after drowning while attempting to escape from the school premises, where he and his friend were denied permission. The deceased has been identified as Martin Izabayo, a senior two student hailing from Kisoro.
According to the school’s headteacher, Nicholus Kajumba, Martin Izabayo, along with his friend Daniel Owamani, both senior two students from Bubare subcounty in Rubanda District, decided to flee the school after being refused permission. Tragically, their escape attempt took a fatal turn when the canoe they were sailing in capsized, leading to their life-threatening predicament.
In a fortunate twist, Daniel Owamani was rescued and is currently receiving medical attention at Bwama Health Center III. However, Martin Izabayo’s body remains submerged in the waters of Lake Bunyonyi, waiting to be retrieved.
At the time of this report, the police have not yet issued a formal statement regarding the drowning case. Nonetheless, efforts are underway to recover the body of Martin Izabayo from Kisoro district.
