Hon. Kamara John Nizeyimana, the Member of Parliament for Bufumbira North, expressed concern about the growing sectarianism in Kisoro district, which is leading to division among its people. He made these remarks on Friday during his presence as the guest of honor at the annual general meeting of the Kisoro United Boda Boda Operators (KUBO) held at Shaza playground in Kisoro Municipality.

Hon. Kamara pointed out that the recent emergence of the Bukimbiri United Boda Boda Operators (BUBO), which split from KUBO, lacked clear reasons for the division. He highlighted the fruitful collaboration between KUBO and security agencies in maintaining the safety of both customers and Boda riders. He expressed concerns that this security cooperation might be compromised if the two associations operated under separate leaderships.

The MP criticized the top leadership for favoring the formation of BUBO based on tribal affiliations, emphasizing that Kisoro should remain united despite its diversity. He pledged to engage other leaders in the Kisoro leader’s forum to find a solution to the problem of sectarianism, as it causes confusion among the people.

Hon. Kamara encouraged the Kisoro United Boda Boda Operators to continue working together in unity, advocating for the preservation of their association as a whole. He urged the residents of Kisoro district not to heed discriminatory messages, emphasizing that most members of parliament do not support such leadership styles.

In another matter, the MP shared his amusement regarding a group from Bukimbiri County advocating for Bible translation into Rukimbiri language when there is no clearly defined spoken language in the county.

The Chairman of Kisoro United Boda Boda Operators, Karagala Robert, vowed to keep fighting for the interests of their members who are being enticed to join the rival organization at a cost, despite having already paid a significant sum to join KUBO. He also revealed that some former leaders of the organization are behind the misunderstandings within the association.

Hajji Shafiq Sekandi, the Kisoro Resident District Commissioner (RDC), acknowledged the government’s allowance for the formation of new associations and emphasized that no one should prevent such developments at a lower level. He praised Karagala for being a good leader who organizes meetings for the association and ensures accountability to its members, while also calling on leaders to show mutual respect.
