Yesterday, at St. Mary’s National Major Seminary Ggaba, the Catholic Church released its latest findings indicating a decline in faith among adult Catholics in the country.
The research, conducted over a year by Rev. Fr. Innocent Bukenya from the Masaka diocese in various dioceses across the nation, reveals that a significant number of adult Catholics have embraced secularism, forsaking or disregarding their Catholic teachings.
Fr. Bukenya, who serves as the Incharge of Schools in Luvule Catholic Parish, Masaka diocese, also highlighted that the findings demonstrate that many adult Catholics attend Mass out of habit, with a diminishing connection to the teachings of the Church. This trend is seen as potentially detrimental to future generations.
He recommends that the Church should implement a structured adult catechism program, similar to what is provided for children, to ensure that adults are equipped with knowledge and spiritual empowerment.
Additionally, Fr. Dr. Charles Lwanga Ssekabira, the Dean of Students at St. Mary’s National Major Seminary Ggaba, shared that six sets of research findings were presented today, covering various social and religious issues such as marriage, poverty, and Catholic faith. The plan is to compile these findings into a single publication for public consumption.
