The Government has made an official announcement regarding the late Archbishop emeritus of Mbarara Archdiocese, the Most Rev. Paul Bakyenga, stating that he will be honored with an official burial.Archbishop Bakyenga served as the Archbishop of Mbarara from January 2, 1999, until April 25, 2020.
He passed away on Tuesday morning at Nsambya Hospital in Kampala.During a meeting held at her office in Kampala to coordinate the burial arrangements, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja chaired the national organizing committee. She disclosed that President Museveni had instructed her to arrange an official burial for the late Archbishop in recognition of his significant contributions to the country’s development.
The government’s decision to grant Archbishop Bakyenga an official burial was praised by the current Archbishop of Mbarara, Rt. Rev. Lambert Bainomugisha, who commended the late Archbishop’s patriotism.The funeral ceremony, which includes a gun salute, is scheduled to take place at Nyamitanga Cathedral on Sunday.
