Summary:
- The treasurer of Mawa Market Sweet Potato Association, Ms. Roylne Biira, plans to sell part of her land to recover allegedly mismanaged funds, leading to confrontation by members seeking Christmas savings; meanwhile, a survey suggests multiple savings groups are experiencing losses.
The beleaguered treasurer of the Mawa Market Sweet Potato Association, Ms. Roylne Biira, has reportedly revealed intentions to liquidate a portion of her land in a bid to recover funds that may have been mishandled within the association.
Yesterday, around fifty members confronted her over allegations of mismanagement of their Christmas savings, earmarked for purchasing food items during the festive season. Ms. Roylne, visibly shaken and unable to account for the members’ savings, had no choice but to permit her relatives to sell a section of her land to appease the irate members. This group solely relied on their savings for Christmas shopping.
In light of the apparent disappointment, the members urged Roylne to secure a loan for them to procure food and sustain their families while she executed her long-term plan of selling a portion of her land in the village. Conversely, Mama Nya Alinda, an eggplant dealer at Kisanga A Market, and others were witnessed by our reporter celebrating in the early hours after receiving their entire savings from their group.
Nevertheless, a mini-survey conducted by Examiner indicated that most savings groups were purportedly facing financial losses.
