Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Two senior officials from the Uganda Railways Corporation, Tom Kimera, the senior procurement officer, and Maliza Mukembo Tibewolwa, the senior human resource and administration officer, were brought before the Anti-Corruption Court and charged with abuse of office. The charges are related to a procurement matter and pertain to their actions as members of the evaluation committee.

The charges allege that in June 2020, while serving in their respective roles at the Uganda Railways Corporation, they engaged in activities that were detrimental to the interests of their employer and another bidder. Specifically, they approved Deloitte Uganda Limited as eligible to provide consultancy services for the recruitment of the managing director of URC. This approval was claimed to have violated the laws and procedures governing public service procurement in Uganda.

Both individuals denied the charges and have been remanded until October 24.
