Tumusiime Dominic, a Swahili teacher at Kanyabwanga Secondary School, was arrested for alleged involvement in examination malpractice during the ongoing Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) Exams In Mitooma District. Tumusiime is accused of sharing purported examination material for a UNEB Biology Practical Paper for 2023 on a teachers’ forum. The school’s Headteacher, One Mugizi, reported the incident to the police, and the case was forwarded to the magistrate’s court in Bushenyi.
In Kwania District, the headteacher of Inomo Secondary School was arrested for suspected tampering with an envelope containing Mathematics Paper 1 examination papers. The envelope was received in the presence of examination officials, including the UNEB Chief Scout, Area Supervisor, and security officers. Police are investigating the case.
In Nagalama, the Headteacher of Paul Mukasa Secondary School in Kalagi was arrested for electronically sharing information believed to be a UNEB Examination paper. He allegedly extorted money from the public while sharing the material. He is set to face charges related to aiding and abetting malpractice in court.
In Kampala, the Chief Invigilator at African Paarl Secondary School in Kabalagala, Makindye Division, was arrested on suspicion of providing external assistance during the Chemistry Paper 3 practical examination. A handwritten piece of paper with suspected answers was discovered in the examination room where the Chief Invigilator was supervising. Investigations into this incident are ongoing.
It is important to note that Section 28 of the UNEB Act 2021 classifies damaging or destructing an examination paper, examination material, or any related information as an offense. Those found guilty may face a fine not exceeding one thousand currency points (Twenty Million Shillings) or a term of imprisonment not exceeding five years, or both, according to the Act.
