Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL), the authority responsible for power transmission in the nation, has issued an official announcement regarding a nationwide power blackout.
In a tweet on July 30, UETCL informed its stakeholders about the prevailing situation: “UETCL informs its stakeholders that we are experiencing a national power blackout.”
The blackout has been attributed to ongoing restoration efforts taking place in various parts of the country. UETCL expressed regret for any inconveniences caused by the disruption: “We are working on restoration. All inconveniences caused are regretted.”
Independent sources in the districts of Jinja, Mbarara, Mukono, and Hoima have also confirmed the occurrence of the blackout when contacted by Monitor.
As of the time of this report, UETCL has not disclosed the expected duration of the blackout.
