In a series of policy changes within URA regulations, the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) will now include the collection of Value Added Tax (VAT) on auctioned goods and services. These adjustments have been made to enhance revenue collection from citizens effectively.
Among the notable policy changes are the introduction of taxation on diapers, amnesty acts for tax defaulters, and the taxation of non-resident digital businesses.
Judith Akello, the Business Policy Domestic Supervisor at URA, shared details about the changes: “We have introduced VAT on auctioned goods so that the auctioneer can account for VAT on goods and services.”
Akello emphasized that these changes collectively contribute to meeting the 30 Trillion revenue challenge for the current financial year.
Furthermore, she highlighted that one enforcement approach involves pursuing defaulters who evade taxes.
