Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) officials have successfully captured another crocodile from River Wambabya, which flows into Lake Albert at the Tonya landing site in Buseruka Sub-county, Hoima District.
Mr. George Busiinge, the Warden responsible for Kabwoya Wildlife Reserve and Hoima Central Wildlife Area, reported that the captured reptile has been safely relocated to Murchison Falls National Park, situated along the River Nile.
This marks the second crocodile capture as part of an operation initiated on June 7, 2023. The decision to carry out this operation came in response to a public outcry regarding the predators’ attacks. Since 2020, these crocodiles have been responsible for the death of two people, injuries to another person, and the loss of over 20 cows in the area. Mr. Henry Katalibwa, Toonya A Village Chairman, provided these figures.
Mr. Busiinge emphasized that the trapping, capturing, and translocation of additional crocodiles will continue, as the region has been observed to have a significant population of these creatures.
While a single team is currently handling the operation at Lake Albert, Mr. Busiinge assured that whenever crocodiles pose a threat to both human lives and domestic animals, UWA officials are fully prepared to relocate them to safer areas.
