Kikuube District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) has lifted the suspension at the Kingfisher Development Area (KFDA) in Kikuube District, allowing operations to resume. According to Ernest Rubondo, PAU’s Executive Director, this decision follows a thorough review of safety procedures to ensure contractors and subcontractors adhere to health and safety requirements.
The Authority has also reevaluated safety protocols in collaboration with the operator to enhance health, safety, and environmental practices during operations. The overall progress at the Kingfisher Oil Development Field stands at 53%.
A press release from Gloria Ssebikari, corporate affairs manager, states that operations have resumed with additional safety measures in place and an improved strategy for contractor health, safety, and environment (HSE) management.
Amina Bukenya, corporate affairs manager at China National Oil Offshore Corporation (CNOOC Uganda), has confirmed that the completion timeline will remain unaffected, and they are committed to implementing the agreed safety procedures.
Previously, on October 7, the PAU had directed CNOOC Uganda to halt operations at the Kingfisher field after a security guard’s tragic accident at the camp gate of Excel construction company, a sub-contractor at the Kingfisher oil field in Buhuka, Kyangwali sub-county.
