Emmanuel Macron Accuses Protesters of Exploiting Teenager’s Death in Police Shooting

Saturday, July 1, 2023

Following the tragic shooting of a teenager by police at close range, Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, has leveled accusations against protesters, claiming they are taking advantage of the situation. In response to the escalating violence, Macron convened a crisis meeting where he announced the deployment of additional police officers to restore order. However, he refrained from declaring a state of emergency.

During the meeting, Macron appealed to parents, urging them to keep their rioting children at home, in an effort to prevent further unrest. He also called upon social media platforms to remove specific content that could potentially fuel the tensions.

The incident involving Nahel M, a 17-year-old, has plunged France into turmoil, resulting in three consecutive nights of unrest. The teenager was fatally shot by police as he attempted to drive away from a traffic stop.

The gravity of the situation is reflected in the staggering number of arrests made on Thursday night alone, exceeding 915 individuals. To address the escalating violence, the government has taken the decision to deploy a substantial force of 45,000 police officers.
