Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | The government has at last delivered the bodies of two foreign tourists who tragically lost their lives in Queen Elizabeth National Park last month.

On Monday, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga informed the press that they had collaborated with forensic experts from the United Kingdom and South Africa to prepare the postmortem report for these two foreign individuals.

“The bodies of the deceased foreign tourists were handed over and repatriated to the UK last Wednesday for further arrangements. We empathize with their grieving families, understanding the painful wait, but it was crucial to efficiently coordinate and share our findings with the UK team,” Enanga expressed.

He emphasized that all the necessary legal procedures in Uganda, investigative leads, findings, and the sequence of events, as confirmed by GPS phone data, were shared with the UK counterparts.

“The comprehensive postmortem report has also been provided to the UK team. We wish to reassure both Ugandans and visitors that following this tragic incident, there have been substantial security enhancements at all tourist sites in the country. Our CID investigative team is collaborating with the UPDF to recover exhibits associated with the ADF rebel commander arrested last week to aid in our inquiries.”

A few weeks ago, the Cabinet approved a plan to name a road after the two foreign tourists who were killed within Queen Elizabeth National Park by suspected ADF rebels.

Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister for ICT and National Guidance, disclosed that the Cabinet had passed a resolution to dedicate a road in the country to David Jim Barlow, a British citizen, and his South African wife, Emmaretia Celia Geyer, who tragically lost their lives alongside their Ugandan driver, Eric Alyai.

In a recent operation, the UPDF eliminated four individuals suspected to be affiliated with the ADF rebel group responsible for the tourists’ deaths. Additionally, during the UPDF Marine’s operation, a man believed to be the leader of the breakaway faction that attacked the tourists was apprehended.

The UPDF continues its efforts to track, arrest, or neutralize the remaining ADF members.
