Wednesday, July 5, 2023

Patience Katusabe, a 31-year-old female resident of Nansana West 2 A zone, was identified as the deceased individual, according to the Kampala Metropolitan police. The police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, stated that the fire that claimed Katusabe’s life may have been premeditated. The suspect, identified as Luyima, reported the incident of a fire outbreak in a two-roomed house where his wife was tragically burnt.

Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the husband locked the deceased inside the house before leaving for work on Tuesday morning. He returned home around 1:30 pm to find the house engulfed in flames and his wife deceased inside. The suspected cause of the fire was a charcoal stove.

Luyima raised an alarm, prompting neighbors to rush to the scene and extinguish the fire using sand and water. Unfortunately, they found the woman’s lifeless body burnt on a bed in the bedroom.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter to uncover further details surrounding the incident.

According to the annual crime police report of 2022, there was an increase of 3.3 percent in homicide cases countrywide, with 4,043 reported cases compared to 3,912 cases in 2021.
