Charles Mbire to Receive Shs5 Billion in MTN’s Shs134.3 Billion Dividend Payout

Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | MTN Uganda is set to disburse a dividend of Shs134.3 billion to its shareholders on December 22, 2023, with electronic transfers directed to the bank accounts or mobile money wallets of the recipients. Charles Mbire, the board chairman of MTN Uganda, is poised to receive Shs5 billion from this dividend payout. The company’s unaudited financial results reveal a 21.1 percent increase in profit after tax during the third quarter, amounting to Shs354.4 billion, compared to Shs292 billion in 2022.

The second interim dividend, approved by the Board of Directors on November 1, 2023, aligns with the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) Listing Rules 2021. Key dates associated with the dividend payment include the Book Closure Date on December 1, 2023, and the ex-dividend date on November 28, 2023. Investors purchasing MTN Uganda shares before the ex-dividend date will qualify for the interim dividend, while those acquiring shares after this date will not be eligible.

MTN Uganda, in its unaudited financial results for the third quarter, stated, “Notice is hereby given that the company’s directors have approved the payment of a second interim dividend of Shs6.0 per share (Shs134.334 billion) for the quarter ended September 30, 2023. This is subject to deduction of withholding taxes. The number of ordinary shares in issue at the date of this declaration is 22,389,044,239.”
