The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) recently initiated a Taxpayers Appreciation Week, dedicated to acknowledging and rewarding individuals and organizations consistently meeting their tax obligations with outstanding performance. During the event, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, as the guest of honor, urged URA officials to prioritize effective service delivery to the Ugandan populace.
The Prime Minister emphasized that when citizens are satisfied with the services provided, they are more likely to comply with tax requirements and obligations. This compliance, in turn, enables the state to generate revenue essential for fulfilling its responsibilities in fostering growth and development within the country.
Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development Matia Kasaija commended URA for its progressive achievements in revenue collection, noting a yearly increase that aids in better planning and fund allocation across various sectors.
The 17th edition of this year’s Appreciation Week carries the theme “Celebrating the Economic Heroes of Uganda.” Commissioner General John Musinguzi, in his opening remarks, highlighted the impact of innovations and new systems in simplifying tax payment for everyone. He also emphasized the strengthened relationship with taxpayers, making tax collection a more straightforward process.
Coca Cola Beverages received the prestigious title of Outstanding Taxpayer of the Year, contributing Shs 3.2 trillion, followed by Chopa Gaming and Bank of Baroda. Among the recipients of the Commissioner General’s award was Ankole Diocesan Bishop Rev. Associate Prof Sheldon Mwesigye.
